This Indenture Wittnesseth That John Francis< no role > & Lancelott Coppleston< no role > Churchwardens Hugh
Mills Francis Morlye, Edward Grisdell< no role > & Wm Lawrence< no role > Overseeres of the poore of
the Parish of St Clement Danes in ye County of Middx with thassent of John Phellipps< no role >
& Peter Lugg< no role > Esqrs . Justices of the Peace for ye. County of Middx & Citty & Libty of Westmr
according to a Statute in that case made & provided have putt Mary Ellis< no role > Daughtr
of John Ellis< no role > late of the Parish of St Clement Danes Apprentice to John Phibbs< no role >
and Mary< no role > his wife and with her after the manner of an Apprentice to dwell &
serve from the day of the date of these prsents unto the full end & terme of
seaven yeares from thence next ensueing and fully to be compleate & ended
Dureing all which said terme wee the Churchwardens & Overseeres of ye poore
with thassent aforesaid Doe Order and appoint that the said Mary Ellis< no role > well
and faithfully shall serve, her secretts keepe, her Commandments lawfull &
honest every where shall gladly doe hurt to her said Mrs. she shall not Doe, or
consent to be done of others, but shall prevent it if she may, or else from time to
time admonish her thereof, the goods of her said Mrs. she shall not wast northen
to any body lend without her consent neither from her service by day or night
Shall not absent her selfe, but in all things as a good and faithfull servant
ought to doe shall be have her selfe towards her Mrs. & all hers dureing the
said terme of seaven yeares Tavernsor Alehouses she shall not frequent
except it be about her Mrs. bussinesse there to be done At Cards Dice or
any other unlawfull games she shall not play where by her Mrs. may receive
any prejudice Fornication she shall not Committ Matrymony dureing the
said terme she shall not contract And the said Mary Phibbs< no role > shall teach and
instruct or cause to be taught and instructed her said Apprentice in the Art
of a Seampstresse which she now useth according to her best skill and
Knowledge And the said Mary Phibbs< no role > shall give and find to her said Apprentice
sufficient meate drink washing Lodging Apparrell Linnen and all other
necessarys meete & Convenient for such an Apprentice dureing the said terme
And for the true Pformance of all the said Articles in forme aforesaid to be
kept the said Pties bind themselves each to other by these prsents In
Wittnesse where of the said Pties to these prsent Indres interchangeably have
sett theire hands and seales this 2d. day of August in ye fourth yeare of the
raigue of or Soveraigne Lord James ye 2d. Over England Scotland France &
Ireland King et Annoqr Dui 1688 .
