stopped in order to discover from whence the said Criese came
and soon found that it was down the Road towards the
said Turnpike whereupon this Deponent and the said
two men who were with him Proceeded on towards the
Turnpike untill they came to the a Public House Door
by the Road side there called & known by the Name
of the Swan where they observed about four
Men and three women at the door who were still cried out Murder
Murder, I have been robbed whereupon this Deponent
went upto one of then who was a Tall Man (whose
Name was Herring) who with two or three other
were scuffling together and this Deponent knowing
him from some late Occurrences desired him to put
on his Cloaths (as he and the rest had put off their
Cloaths and were quarrelling) and Herring said he
would put on his Cloathes but swore he would
have all his things as some of them had robbed
him of his black Silk Handkerchiefs and nine
Shillings and six pence, then this Deponent turned
from Herringandto another who he found to be
Colley who kept the [..] Swan Alehouse there and
reprimanded him for being there amongst such
a set of Persons and advised him to go into his
House and took him by the Arm and led him in
and told his wife and Daughter to shut the Door as
soon as he this Deponent went out which she did
his said wife did and likewise bolted and otherwise
fastened it, and then this Deponent called to his
two

two Men and they left Herring and the rest of
the Persons there and proceeded to Tyburn Turn pike
where [..] his former two men met him but this Deponent never saw any of them strike
each other whilst he was there nor did any one
charge the other of having received any blows
and further this Deponent sayeth and Knoweth
not

with another little Man that worked for
the deceased Allen and said he was the
beginner of the Quarrell at this time they
were in the house and this Deponent took
