An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Parish of Saint James
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Twentieth day of January in the Twenty Seventh
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great-Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas

good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duty sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Walter Chetwynd< no role > Esquire came to
h is Death, do upon their OAth say That the said Walter Chetwynd< no role > not being of
sound Mind Memory and understanding but Lunatic and Distracted on the Twentieth day of
January in the year aforesaid at the Parish and in the Liberty and County aforesaid, a certain
Pistol charged with Gunpowder and a leaden Bullet, which he the said Walter Chetwynd< no role > then
and there had and held in his Right Hand, to and against the Head of him the said Walter
Chetwynd
< no role > ator wear the right temple die then and there shoot off and Discharge by means
whereof the said Walter Chetwynd< no role > did then and there give unto himself with the Leader Bullet
aforesiad to Discharged and Shot out of the Pistol aforesaid by the force of the Gunpower aforesaid
in and upon the Head of him the said walter Chetwynd< no role > at or near the right temple, one Mortal
Wound of the Breadth of one Inch and of the Depth of there Inches of which said Mortal Wound
he the said Walter Chetwynd< no role > then and there instantly Died. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon
their oath aforesaid do say That the said Walter Chetwynd< no role > not being of Sound Mind Memory and
understanding but Lunatic and Distracted in manner and by the means aforesaid did Kill himself
In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the Foreman of the Jurors aforesaid on behalf of
himself and the rest of the said Jurors have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day
year and at the Place first above mentioned.
