(Secretary to the Comr:) for the first and second Third parts of the
said Debt amounting to £921:06s:08d. of which they Alleadge that noe
more then 600. Guineys accually came to their Hands the remr:
being allowed to me Mr: Brownjohn for sollicitacon and Charges And they acknowledged
that they had divided the said 600: Guineys between themselves and
applyed the same to their own use.

That upon due Consideracon had of the Nature and
Method of this Application and the manner of their receiveing
and dischargeing this Money. And that neither of the Governours
of this House nor the other Physitian Apothecary or Surgeons were
in the least acquainted there with till this matter came under
Examinacon And Reading the Orders of this House for bidding any
Reward to be taken by the Physitians or Surgeons of the Cure of any
poor patients here And alsoe on reading the Minutes of severall
former Comittees and Orders of Generall Courts whereby Gratuites
have been given to the Doctor Surgeons and Apothecarry in respect of their
Extraordinary Service dureing the late Warr, And it not appearing
to us by the Minutes of any former Comittee that the said Doctor and
Surgeon ever had leave to apply to the said Comr: for any Gratificacon
or Bounty from the Government or Account of the sick and
Wounded Seamen, And if they ever had such Leave, yett their present
Applicacons being of a different Nature and tending only to
Establish a Debt after the Rate of 6s:8d: p head And this Money
being issued and received not as a Gratuity but as a Debt which
use conceive they ought not to demand for any Service done in
this Hospitall And for that an Allowance from the Government
in respect of the said Sick and Wounded Seamen hath been exspected
and of ten applyed for to the said Comr: on behalfe of the Hospitll.
it selfe Wee were of Opinion that the saidDoctor
Torlesse and Mr: Elton had acted unwarrantably in such their
Applicacons for and receiving of the said Money and contrary
to the Rules and practice of this House and the duty of their
places and wee therefore thought fitt to suspend them from their
said places untill the pleasure of this Court shall be knowne
concerning them And for the further Information of this Court
touching the Nature of this Case and the Matters alleadged
by the said Doctor and Surgeon in Excise of what they have done
Wee referr our selves to the Minutes of our proceedings of the 12th:
the before menconed Coppyes of papers obtained from the said
Comr. for sick and Wounded Seamen which wee have Ordered to
be laid before this Court.
