To the Worshipful his Majestys Justices of the Peace
acting in and for the County of Middlesex in General
Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the said County assembled

The Humble Petition and Appeal of Thomas Townsend< no role >
of the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County of
Middlesex Pawnbroker

Sheweth

That by a certain conviction under the Hand and Seal of
John Nares< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said
County bearing date the twenty sixth day of March 1799 Your Petitioners
was convicted as therein alledged for that on the twenty first day of March
Instant at the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County of
Middlesex aforesaid your Petitioner who then and there used and
Exercised the Trade and Business of a Pownbroker did demand receive
and take of and from Hannah Gogay on reduming the Pawn and
pledge thereafter mentioned the sum of One Penny as and for and
by way of Profit upon and over and above the sum of One shilling
and six pence theretofore to wit on the sixteenth day of February
last last and advanced by your Petitioner upon a certain Pawn
and pledge that is to say three Cotton Window Curtain to the
said Hannah Gogay< no role > the said Sum of One Penny so demanded
received and taken us aforesaid being more than at and after
the rate of four Pence for the Evan of Twenty Shillings by the
Calender Month including the Current Month in which such
Pawn and pledge was reduced altho' such Month was not
then Expired Contrary to the form of the Statute in such came
made and provided and the said Justice did adjudge Your
Petitioner to pay and Forfeit for the same the sum of Five
Pounds of Lawful Money of Great Britain

That your Petition conceives himself aggrieved by
the Judgment of the said Justice and therefore

Your Petitioner doth appeal to your
Worships at this General Quarter Sessions
of the Peace against the Judgment of the
said Justice and doth pray such relief
in the Premises as to your Worships
shall seem meet
