Middlesex April Sessions 1790

Affidavit of David Richard< no role > of the Back
of St Clements Danes the County
of middlesex Hair Dresser Christ

Soll for the said David Richard}
Dept Richard Saith that sometime in or about
in Month of Sept last he was upon the Informr Evidence of
Thomas Mather< no role > & Elizh Grew or one of them convicted before
George Reid< no role > Esq one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace
acting in and for the Sd County in the Penalty of 40 for wearing
covered Buttons (which this Dept did not until that time know
was contrary to Law) and that this dept by the Advice of his Friends entered into a
Recognizce to appeal to such Convict being informed that the same was illegal
Saith that being totally ignorant of the Proceedings necessary to be had in
consequence of such Recognize supposing that he should have some notice or Information
respecting the same Dept neglected to attend at the then next Sessions in conformity
there to where by as this Dept has since been informed (by a lre reced from the Clerk of
the Peace for the sd County) the same is become forfeited & will be estreated into his
Majesty's Court of Exchequer unless this Court shall think fit to respite the same

Saith that having been informed by the other Dept that in the Informr & Deposr taken
upon the said Convictr the sd Thomas Mather< no role > was described of the Parish of St Margarets
Westmr & that the said Eliz Grew< no role > was described of No 1. New court Brokers Row
Moor fields Dept hath made the most diligent search & Inquiry in his Power after them
in order to serve them with a Notice of this Depts Intention to apply to this Court to respite the
sd Recognize upon the Payment of the Penalty above mentd but that not withstanding such
his Endeavours & Applicats in the sevl Streets & Places where they are so described as resident he
cannot get any Informr or Intelligence what ever about them or either of them

Dept Bedingfield Saith that he did on the 12th day of April instant personally serve
the Sd George Reid with a true Copy of the Notice here to annexed and that at the time of that
service the Sd George Rice< no role > Informed this Dept that in the Informr & Deposrs taken upon the
sd Convict the sd Thomas Mather< no role > & Elizh Grew< no role > were described in the manner here in before
mentd
