of the Peace of the County

At a general Meeting of his Majesty's Justices of
the Peace assembled this 18th: of December 1775 at
Hicks-Hall in the said County pursuant to an order
of his Majesty's most Honble Privy Council trans-
mitted to Sir John Hawkins< no role > Knight Chairman by his Grace
the Duke of Northumberland Custos Rotulorum for
the said County.

Unanimously resolvedJustices of the peace for this County
That it is recommended to the Magistratesof the several Divisiones infor this
County that they do from time to time pursuant to the Statute of the 17th:
of his late Majestys frequently issue their general privy search Warrants
for the apprehending of all such Rogues vagabonds loose idle and disorder
ly persons as shall be found in their respective Divisions in order the
they may be examined and death with according to law
And Whereas the publick Streets and passages of of this County adjount tothisMetropolis have
beenlately been infested and annoyed by great numbers of Beggars
many of whom by sundry and divers artifices appear objects of distress and
others l.by reasonof blindness, loss of bimbs and other infirmities do
infest the publick Streets and are become a common nuisance. It
is therefore recommended to the Magistratein their respective parish
that they do convene the Constables Head boroughs and Beadles of their res-
pective Parishes and give it them in express direction that they do
from day to day search for and apprehend all such Beggars as they
Shall find infesting the publick Streets. And it is further recom-
mended to the Magistrates in their several Parishes that they do distinguish
thesturdy and at oficial [..] form the real objects of distressfrom these who are really
se [..] by ordering the former to be publickly whipped pursuant to the
Statute and by passing the latter to their respective Settlements returning
