So that it he highly probable that the Citz
built it originally and substantially [..] repaired it in 1631
and that they also be rebuilt itofin 1672. after
the Fireappearand had the till of Parliament
for that Purpose appears by the lateer Subscription and alsounusallythe Act

of 19. Cha. 2d. [..] They have also within these
last Years rebuilt the Cells and made very
considerable Alterations and Cassly they made
good the Damage done by the Fire in1762
and all this without Application to the County of
Middx.

From all this it is certain that the City are
[..] bound to maintain the goal of Newgate
any private Person an be to refer maintain
Bridge or High wayand that there is in Law no
one Reason to expect the County to contribute to
the Expence of it then there would be to make
a next adjourning Neighbour contribute to the Repair
of a Bridge or Highway originally with or made

But say the City, the County receive a Benefits
by being exempted from the Custody of and charg
of kicking their Prisoners so do the Stranger
and the public in the case above put receive a Benefit and yet it
