in Newgate from 1755 to 1765
It's a true Account from the Time I came
into the Office-all Inquisitions are
taken by myself or Deputy-upon an
average 6 or 7 Felonstoone Debtor
I beleive almost all 28 in 1763 died of Con-
-tagious Distempers except about 6 or 7
suppose more than 1/3 as whate 132
died of Goal Distemper.

What mean you by Goal Distemperd
I mean Epidemical Fever.

Does it continue in Goal for ten
Years together?

I believe the Goal very seldom totally free from
it-sometimes hardly more than 4 in a Year
have died.

Do You think it the particular
Case of the Goal of Newgate?

I believes it may be in other Goals.

Is this Distemper very Mortal?
Great Many die of ittakes them of very
soon.

How do Account for so few
dying in 10 Years?

I can't form any Judgment.

to have it at the same time.

I can't recollect so for back as 1755
When I first came into the Office I was more
Timerous.

Why less timerous now?
I had never seen 4 dead Bodies in my Life
for some reason as young Surgeons.

Did Your timidity arise from
Apprehensions of Goal Distemper?

Yes it arose from bothmore from
Apprehensions of the Goal Distemper.

Why less timerous now than before?

Because I have been more used to go there
but took upon the place to be extremely
dangerous.
