Have you ever known any Inconveniencies
to the prisoners at Hicks's hall in Consequence
of that Order?

There have been Objections made to it
by reason of it's ill tendency in some particulars
-Remonstrances I beleive have been made
to the Court at the Old Bailey & to the Judges
either to reseind or relax the Order and
Beleive in Consequence of such Applications
it has been dispensed with occasionally
so far as to the Time and as long as the Grand
Jury has been sitting.

Whether the Instances are frequent for
keeping the prisoners back?

Yes-frequently.

What particular reasons have been given
for it?

I don't know particularly.

What reason for dispensing with the Order?

By reason of the Inconvenience of Prisoners
remaining in Gaol tile the next Sessions, &
the Number of prisoners; that the Indictments

Could.

Could not be prepared & got ready-when a
Number of prisoners are before the Grand Jury
of Middlesex they have a great deal of Business
& the Court does dispence with that Order.

Does it not generally happen that all the
Indictments are prepared ready for the Grand
Jury to present to the Judges?

There are 2 Clerks of Indictment at Hicks's
Hall -they attend the Sessions of the peace &
Oyer and Terminer which begin the 2d. day at
the Old Baily Session-the practice is to forward
the Felony Bills as fast as bespoke giving
them the preference of Misdemeanor Bills
Felony Bills when returned into Court are sent
to the Old Bailey as soon as that Session opens
or else the preceeding day to the Officer that
attends that Court the Sessions of the peace
& Oyer & Terminer continue Sitting during
the Gaol Delivery the Jury return the
Bills into Court as they find them 2 or 3
Times
