The Examination of will Mathias< no role > & James
Barkley
< no role > taken before as two of his Majestys
Justices of the peace for the said County.

These Examint. being Changed on the Oath of
David Jones< no role > & Willm allen< no role > upon Saymour of Assaults
of them in a Field in St. Parish of S Pancras inmen the
King highway with an Justice to Rob them There
Exant. Jointly say That that they are not Guilty
of the Change and the sd. Mathias for himself saith
That he was at the Genge in the parish of St. Pancras
and there by Accident met with the sd Ja Barkley< no role > &
continued then tell about Ten O'Clock & then departed
with then sd. Barkley very much in Lignor And the
Land lad of the house persusaded the Ext. to leave his
watch for fees he shsd. be Robbed which he did & Jane
Two pence for a Link which was lighted & they went
from the sd house & being in Lignor. afsd. Cost their
way & they intending to come into Tower at the End of
Southampton Row says that he hath no recollection
of the place where the assault is said to have happened
says he rembers his hands been tyed but dont know
by whom Outsays that he wandard afterwards as for
as Paddington before he knew Where he was which is
near two miles from his habitation says that he is
a Tyre saith and a house keeper [..] near little
Queen street S. Giles says that he employs diverse
Servant in his business & has no Necessity or Templaton
to go a Robbing & that if he uttered the Words with which
he is Charged it was the Effect of Ligner & not with design
