Him, Then Sheppard Struck Hogan a Blow in the Face & Hogan
cryed being but a Stripling, & Sheppard a Man, then Hogan
turned about & seeing a Gardiners [..] Hoe stand by some Pales there
took It & struckwith Itat Thos Sheppard< no role > with the Handle of the
said Hoe & Thos. Sheppard< no role > caught the Handle & Pulled the Hoe
out of Hogans Hand & then Hogan ran from Sheppard about ten
Yard & accidentally fell on his Face there Sheppard followed & ran up
to Hogan (lynig on the Ground) on the right Side of his Leggs. & then
Sheppard seized the handle of the said Hoe with both his Hands &
as Hogan on the Ground turned his head a side to see it Sheppard
followed him Sheppard with the sd Hoe in both his Hands gave
Hogan a Blow on the right side of his Head a Small distance above
the Temple with the Sharp Edge of the said Hoe & the Handle
broke with the Blow: Next Day Hogan walked from Chelsea
to St. Georges Hospitall near Hide Park Corner And this Dept.
saw Hogan several Times between the Time he reced the
Blow & the time of his Death which hapned on the 11th. of April
& that the sd Hogan was a healthy lad before the sd Blow &
ailed nothing but That Blow wch Sheppard gave Hogan was
the Cause of the Death of the said Hogan

Jews Row Chelsea On his Oath says to this Deponent on the 30th March
last was in the Skittle Ground belonging to the House of Thomas Bevan< no role >
called the three Compasses in Jones Rowe Chelsea with Issac Crayden< no role >
& several others among whom were James Hogan< no role > and Thomas Sheppard< no role > &
a Stranger at the same time in the salve Ground when the Strangerm
demanded a Penny of Hogan which Hogan said be did not wager
with Him afterwards Thomas Sheppard< no role > without Provocation Struck
Hogan more than Once & Hogan seeing a Gardiners Hoe Handing by
agst same Pales there & offered to Strike Sheppard with the Handle
but Sheppard Caught the Handle of the Hoe & forced the same from
Hogan & Hogan ran from Sheppard about 10 Yards & accidentally fell
there on his Face & Sheppard follwed him with the Hoe in One hand
first & when Because along his Side then Sheppard Put both his
Hands to the Hoe & gave Hogan a Blow on his head with the said
Hoe & Hogan is since dead And before the said Blow the said
Hogan was Hearty & well, tho' he was but a this Lad.

Venner Hartcup< no role > of St Georges Hospital near Hyde Park
Corner Surgeon on his Oath says that James Hogan< no role > was on the
31st day of March last brought to the above named Hospital with
his Skull fractured of wch Fracture he dyed the eleventh day of
April following.
