On the Prosecution of George Campbell< no role > for
Forgery.

Matthew Roe< no role > of Grays Inn in the County of Middlesex Gentleman Sollicitor
for the Prosecution in this Cause maketh Oath and Saith that he hath
used all his Endeavours both by himself and his Agents since last Sessions
to find out one George Sweatman< no role > an Evidence for the Crown against the
said Defendt. so as to produce him at the Tryal of this Cause this present
Sessions but without Effect And this Deponent Saith that in the Course
of this Deponents Enquirys he hath lately received divers Informations
and which this Deponent verily believes to be true that the said
George Sweatman< no role > is secreted in Some foreign Parts out of this Kingdom
And this Deponent possitively Saith that he is fully convinced in his
Conscience from the Knowledge he has of the Inequitons Practices made
Use of by the sd. Defendant and his Agents in the Course of the Proceedings
in this Cause that the said Defends. has actually caused of procured the said
George Sweatman< no role > to be sent and kept out of the Way from giving Evidence
at the Tryal of this Cause and that he now is maintained at the sole Expence
of the said Defendt. And this Deponent further Saith that on the Motion
made last Session for putting of the Tryall of the said Defendt. till this
present Sessions the Court on reading an Affidavit of one William Mc. Clean< no role >
Produced by the said Defendant did declare that they were in some Doubt
before whether the said Sweatman was secreted by the Prosecutor or by
the Defendant but that after they had heard the last mentioned Affidavit
read they had no remaining Doubt but that the said Sweatman was
secreted by the said Defendant and advised the said Defendant to
procure him against the present Sessions And this Deponent Saith
that from the last abovementioned Enquiry and the several Informations
so received by this Deponent as above Setforth he this Deponent verily
believes he shall be able to trace out where the said George Sweatman< no role >
is secreted by next Sessions and that he this Deponent will use his
best Endeavours for that Purpose so as to be able to produce him against
