the Night Between the Twentieth
and Twenty first [..] of April
last to
the best of this Deponents Remembrance and belief the Outhouse belonging to
Mr. Thomas Serle< no role >
at
Stangate
in the County of Surry
was broke open and Several
Brass Chambers the property of his Majesty under the Care of this Deponent as
a Gunner Stole thereout And this Deponent further Saith that John Smith< no role >
now a Prisoner in his Majesty's Gaoal of Newgate
having been detected in
Selling One of the Said Chambers And there being Great reason to believe that here as
Concerned in the Said Burgalary and Felony he the Said John Smith< no role >
was
Carried before John Fielding< no role >
Esquire
One of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace
for
the County of Middlesex
and by him Committed and detained for that and other
Offences And this Deponent further Saith that this Deponent having received
Information that Daniel Lewis< no role >
an John Hodges< no role >
were also Concerned in the
Said Burglary and Felony he this Deponent did himself with other persons
Use their Utmost Endeavours to Apprehend the said Lewis & Hodges< no role >
and
this Deponent Saith that the said Lewis being Accordingly Apprehended And
brought before the Said Mr. Fielding did Confess as this Deponent believes
the truth to be that he with the Assistance of the Said Hodges And by the Contrivance
& with the privity of the said Smith broke open the Said Outhouse and Stole
the Said Chambers thereout And that two thereof were afterwards sold in the County of Middx
[..] by him and the Said
Hodges to the Said Smith who was Privy to and knew that the Same were Stolen
in manner aforesaid And this Deponent Saith that he hath Used his Utmost
Endeavours Since the Said Smith and Lewis were Apprehended and taken to take
the Said Hodges but this Deponent hath not Yet been Able So to do But this Depont.
Very believes that he Shall be Able to Apprehend and take the Said Hodges
before the next Assizes in Surry in Order to Try him therefor the Said Offence.
