The Indictment Sets forth That Edward Bygrave< no role > late of the Parish of Kensington in Com Middx. Labourer [..]
the fear of God before his Eye but being seduced by the Devilfalsly unlawfully & unjustly contriving & intending quatly to enjure one William
Frankland
< no role > of London Brewer in his good name & reputation & to came sd. Frankland to be imprisoned for a felony on [..] 9th. November 1739
at the parish of Kensington aforesaidbefore William Morrice< no role > Esqr . one of the Justices assigned to keep the Peace in sd. County & also to hear & determine
divers fellonies Trespasses & other misdemeanours committed in sd. County sd. Bygrave voluntarily Corruptly deceitfully & unlawfully [..]
[..] took upon himself the Name & person of one John Spruce< no role > of the parish of Aynoe on the Hill in Com Northampton Salesman
before sd. William Morice< no role > & in the Name & place of sd. John Spruce on sd. 9th. November at Kensington sd. took his Corporal Oath upon
the holy Gospoll of God before sd. Morrice (having sufficient power to administer said Oath) did voluntarily falsely maliciously corruptly &
decietfully upon his sd Oath Say Depose & Swear & in writing affirm That a person then in Custody in his Majestys Goal of Newgate in
the County of Middx. & who went by the Name of Wm. Frankland by the Nickname of Rusty Dick (meaning sd. Wm. Frankland) (which
Wm. Frankland on sd. 9th. Novr. & long before & afterwards was a Prisoner in Custody in Goal of Newgate) did on 20th. October 1736 attack
him (meaning sd. Bygarve, then falsely personating sd. John Spruce) on the Highway as he [..] sd. Bygrave then personating sd. Spruce
was traveling between Islop & Wheatly in Oxfordshire tha he sd (Frankland) robbed him (sd. Bygravethere personating sd. Spruce) & forceably
took from him (sd. Bygrave) one Guinea fifteen shillings in Silver a Silver Watch & Hatt and that sd. Robery was committed in the day
