WHEREAS the Trust reposed by the Laws of this Realm in Grand Juries, is and ought, in Reason
and Justice, to be reputed and deem'd a high Trust, and of great Moment and Importance in his Maje-
sty and his Government, as well as to his Majesty's Subjects and Suitors attending the Courts of
General Quarter and General Sessions of the Peace: And whereas strict Charge hath been frequent-
ly from time to time given to the Sumoning Bailiffs of the Sheriff of this County of Middlesex,
to Summon able, Sufficient, and Substantial Persons fit to perform his Majesty's Service, and discharge the Duty in-
cumbent on them as Grand Jurymen, to be upon the Grand Jury at the Sessions of the Peace for the said County;
Yet not with standing the said Bailiffs have contemptuously, and for the fake of corrupt Lucre, wilfully neglected
to Summon a great many able, Sufficient, and Subitantial Men, and in their Room and Place, have frequently Sum-
mon'd Persons of mean Capacities and in low Circumstances, to be upon the Grand Jury at the Sessions of Peace
holden for the said County: And whereas for the more effectual remedying and redreffing of this growing Evil
and corrupt Practice, and preventing the Mischiefs and Dangerous Consequences which, if contau'd might happen
thereby; It was by an Order made at the General Sessions of the Peace holden for this Count by Adjournment,
on Saturday the Fifteenth Day of May, in the Eleventh Year of the Reign of his present Najesty King George ,
Order'd That the Sheriff of the County of Middlesex for the time being, should for the future, return to the
Court of every General Quarter and General Sessions of the Peace to be thereafter holden for the said County at
the beginning of such Sessions, upon the Pannel of the Grand Jury, the true Christian Names, Surnames and Addi-
tions of able, hot [..] , skilful and substantia Men, fit to be Grand Jurymen, to enquire for our Sovereign Lord the
King for the Body of the Said County, to the Intent that his Majesty's Service might be the letter done and per-
form'd; And in safe any Person should thereafter to return'd upon the Pannel of the Grand Jury, who Should
by his Oath take in open Court, or by any other proper Evidence, appear in the Judgment of the Court not
worth the Value of three hundred Pounds, such Person Should be excused or rejected, and fit aside from being a
Grand Juryman of the Said County: And whereas Since the making of the Said Order, divers Persons have been
return'd upon the Pannel of the Grand Jury of this County, who in the Opinion of this Court ought not to have
been return'd thereupon. NOW to the Intent that the Said recited Order may be observed, and also that Persons
who keep common Gaming Houses, or disorderly publick Houses, may not be skreened by any Grand Juryman,
from any Prosecution intended against them for the Same; It is ordered by this Court, that the Said recited Order
be from henceforth well and truly observed; and this Court doth further Order, That the Sheriff of the
County of Middlesex for the time being, do not hereafter return to the Conrt of any General Quarter or General

ny such Person Shall hereafter be return'd upon the Pannel of the Grand Jury, he Shall be discharg'd form Serv-
ing thereon, upon Proof made in open Court, by his own Oath, or other proper Evidence, of his following Such
Trade or Employment, And it is further order'd by this Court, that this Order be forthwith printed, and a

by them in the most publick Manner; And that this Order be read every Sessions immediately. before the
