till Easter last when the Petrs. Bradley & Jeacock were
nominated & confirmed Scavengers Pursuant to the
Act of the Second of William & Mary, And afterwards
a Rate was duely made & confirmed for raiseing
money to reimburse the sd. Petrs. the Scavengers, to
which Rate the other Petrs. or most of them have paid
their quotas, And that Since the Severall Proceedings
aforesaid a Rate hath been made for reimburseing the
Scavengers of the said Parish of St. James Clerkenwell
their charge & expences in their said Office, In which
Rate the Petrs. & all other [..] the Inhabitants of the sd.
Parish of St. John Clerkenwell are charged, which
said Rate as to them the Petrs. are advised is illegall
& unwarrantable, and the Petrs. therefore appealed
from the sd. Scavengers Rate made for the sd. parish of St.
James Clerkenwell, and prayed that the same might
be quashed & sett aside a to the Inhabitants of the
said Parish of St. John Clerkenwell, Whereupon
It was Ordered by this Court that the Constable
Churchwarden, Surveyor's of the high ways, Overseers
of the poor & Scavengers of the Said Parish of St. James
Clerkenwell & all Persons concerned Should attend
this Court on this Present Friday the Sixteenth day of
October instant to heare & abide the Judgmt. and
determination of this Court touching the sd. appeale,
Now upon heareing of what was insisted on by Councell
for the sd. Appellants & alsoe by Councell for the
Inhabitants of the Said Parish of St. James
Clerkenwell touching the Premisses It appeareth to
this Court that the Said parish of St John Clerkenwell was part of
the parish of St James Clerkenwell untill the yeare of our Lord One thousand
thousand Seven hundred twenty three when it was inpursuance of and Act
of Parliament made in the tenth yeare of the reign of her late Matie
Queen Ann Intituled an Act for Enlargeing the time given to the Comrs
appointed by her Matie Pursuant to an Act for granting to hr Matie [..]
