Upon reading the humble peticon & appeale of Lewis Evans< no role > of
the parish of st. Gyles in the fields in this County Victualler oxbit
unto this Court setting forth that by an Order dated the six [..]
day of November last under the hands & seales of John Milner< no role >
& William Prestley< no role > Esqrs . two of his Maties. Jutices of the peace for the
sd. County (Quorum unns) the Petr. is adjudged to be the reputed
Father of a male Bastard child borne in the said parish of st. Gyles
in the fields on the body of Ann Smith< no role > Singlewoman in the Month
of February last was Seven years which is baptized William < no role >
and now become chargeable to the said parish, And that thereby
the pet is ordered to pay to the Churchwardens and overseers of
the poor of the said parish of st. Gyles in the fields the sume of ten
shillings & six pence by them expended concerning the sd Castard
child, and alsoe weekly & every week from thence forth soe
long as the said child should remaine chargeable to the [..]
parish the sume of two shilling & six pence of lawfull money
of Great Britain, And that the petr. should off & from the
charge of [..] the said bastard child at all times there after save
harmless and indemnifie the said parish, By which order of the
Said two Justices the Petr. finding himselfe aggrieved humbly
appeales against the same to this court, And In regard of the
great length of time since the birth of the said child which was
baptized the twenty fourth day of August one thousand seven
hundred & seven being nine years & four months, and seven
materiall witnesses for & on the behalfe of the petr. being out of the
way See that he cannot have them in Court this present Sessions, It
was prayed by the petr. [..] Court would of [..]
hearing of the said appeale to the first day of the next [..]
Sessions of the peace to be holden for this County, or otherwise
relieve him in the premisses, For as much as it appeareth to this
Court that the Petr. cannot be ready with his witnesses to prose [..]
his said appeale this present Sessions It is Ordered by this Court
that the benefit of the said appeale be saved unto him, and that
the hearing & determining there of be adjorned untill the next
Generall Quarter Sessions of the peace to be held for this County,
And that the Churchwardens & overseers of the poor of the said
parish of st. Gyles in the fields upon notice of this Order & all other
