Lune 21 o die Feb: 1714

Whereas the Kings most Excellent Matis by his Royal proclamacon of the Fifth day of January last
past for the Encouragemt of piety and vertue and for the prventing and punishing of Vice prophaneness
and Imorality doth strictly [..] Enjoyn and prohibit all his Subjects of what Degree or Quality
Seever from playing on the Lords day at Dice Cards or any other Game whatsoever either in publique
or private houses or other place or places whatsoever and doth require & comand them & every of
them decently & reverently to attend the worship of God on every Lords day on pain of his highest
displeasure and of being proceeded against with the utmost rigour that may be by Law And for
the more effectual Reforming of all such persons who by reason of their dissolute Liver and
conversances are a Scandal to his Kingdom He doth thereby strictly charge and comand (amongst
other his Maties Officers and Ministers of Justice) all Justices of the peace and all other his Subjects
when it may concern to be very vigilant & Strict in the Discovery and the Effectual prosecucon and
punishmt of all persons who shallbe guilty of excessive Drinking Blasphemy prophane Swearing &
Cursing [..] owdness prophanacon of the Lords Day or other Dissolute Imoral or Disorderly practices
and that they take care alsoe effectually to Suppress all publick Gameing Houses and places and
other lewd & disorderly Housed and to put in Execution the Statute made in the Nine & twentieth
year of the Reign of the late King Charles the Second Intituled An Act for the better Observation
of the Lords Day comonly called Sunday and alsoe an Act of parliamt made in the Ninth year
of the Reign of the late King William the third Intituled An Act for the more effectual
Suppressing of Blasphenry & prophaneness and all other Laws now in force for the punishing
and Suppressing any of the Vices aforesaid and alsoe to Suppress & prsent all Gameing Whatsoever
in publick or private houses on the Lords day and likewise that they take effectual care
to pressent all persons keeping Taverus Chocolate Houses Coffe Houses or other publick
Houses whatsoever from selling Wine Chocolate Coffee Ale Beer or other Liquors or receiving
or permitting Guests to be or remain in such their Houses in the time of divine Service on
the Lords Day as they will answer it to almighty God and upon pain of his Maties highest
Displeasure
