Whereas Philip Howard< no role > & John Tully< no role > Esqrs . two of her Maties. Justices
of the peace for the County of Middx and Liberty of Westminster (Quor unus)
inhabiting next the limits of the Parish Church of St. James [..]
Liberty of Westminster did by an Order under their hands & seales
beareing date the ninth day of June last adjudge John Pether< no role >
of Hammersmith waterman to be the reputed Father of a male
bastard child borne of the body of Jane Evans< no role > Singlewoman
on the fifth day of the said month of June in Warwick street
in the said parish of St. James , which child was become
chargeable to the said parish of St. James , and did Order that
the said John Pether< no role > should pay or cause to be paid to the
Churchwardens & Overseers of the poor of the sd. parish for
the time being or to some or one of them the sume of eleven
shillings & six pence a weeke for the first four weekes from the
birth of the said child and afterwards the sd John Pether< no role > shouldl
pay or cause to be paid to the Churchwardens & Overseers of the
poor of the said parish for the time being or unto same or one
of them weekly the sume of two shillings & six pence for & towards
the maintenance & releife of the said male bastard child for
soe long time as the said child should remaine chargeable to
the said parish, And that the said John Pether< no role > should forthwith
upon sight of the said Order (a true coppy thereof being delivered
unto him) give sufficient security for the performance thereof
or otherwise find securitys to answer his contempt and to abide
such further Order as the Court of Justices assembled in their
Quarter Sessions for th sd. County should think fit to make [..]
And whereas the said John Pether< no role > hath exhibited his appeale
against the said Order unto her Maties. Justices of the peace
assembled at this present Generall Quarter Sessions of the peace
held for this County, which appeale was Ordered to be heard
& determined by this Court on this present day, Now upon Mocon
made unto this Court by Councell for the Churchwardens &
Overseers of the poor of the said parish of St. James It was
alledged that the said John Pether< no role > hath by some indirect
meanes caused the sd Jane Evans< no role > Mother of the said bastard
child to abscond. and that they doe not know where she is, and
