September 1798.

-Shops in the House of Correction and that the Works of every
Day be entered in them in the Evening such Books to be
laid before the Committee at the their several Meetings

A Member of the Committee suggested that a
great saving might be made to the County in the
Expence of Bread if a Bake house were established
within the Prison the Expence of building the Oven
would be about £30. the heating of it daily would be
about 6d. and the saving to the County supposing a
Sack of Flour to be baked every Day would be more than
£160. Per Annum.

The 3d. Meeting of this Committee was held on [..]
Monday 16th. July.

At this Meeting the Governor Reported That
His Majesty< no role > had been graciously pleased to Grant a
Pardon to two of the Mutineers on Condition of their
serving on Board the Leopard Man of Warr.

The Book in which the Work done at the Smiths
Shop is intended was produced and it appears
that from 5th. February 1798. to the 13th. of July being
5. Months and 8. Day's work had been done
which according to the usual Charge of the Trade
would have amounted to £176..15s..6½d. that only
£5..2s..6d. had been expended in the purchase of New
Iron the principal part of the Materials of the Work
having been found on the premises and at the Old
House of Correction .

The Governor Reported That the whole of the
Prison has been White Washed as the Act of Parliament
directs (except the Chapel which is now doing.) at a
less Expence than £5.

Ordered That the Governor do lay in a Quantity of
Coals (not exceeding 50. Chaldrons) preferring Redman
