September 1798.

the review of every part of it His Royal Highness condescended
to Examine the Bedding used by the Prisoners which he
greatly approved and was much pleased to find the Prison
so quiet and all the Prisoners so usefully employed except
One Confined on a Charge of Treason who had amused
himself with a veryDrawing of a Guillotine on
the Wall of his Cell with the Tree of Liberty loaded at each
End upon which his Royal Highness saw enscribed
"A cure for the Kings evil."

The Governor also produced an Account of the
Expences attending the Cloathing and maintaining
the 47. Mutineers sent to his Custody by Order of his
Grace the Duke of Portland to April 1st. 1798. amounting
to £506..7s..3d. but in which Account no part of the
Charges is included which have been incurred by the
Governor in going for the Prisoners and Conveying
them and their property to the Prison nor any
Compensation to the Governor the Chaplain or the
Surgeon for their extraordinary Care of and attention
to those Prisoners.

Resolved That it is the Opinion of this Committee
That the Governor has a reasonable claim for £10.
Per Month the Chaplain to £5 Per Month (he having
performed seperate Duty for those Prisoners in the
Chapel) and the Surgeon £5. Per Month for the great
Additional trouble given to them all.

The Governor also produced an Account
amounting to £8..9s..2d. for Expences incurred in the
maintenance of Seven persons Committed from
Manchester for High Treason and Treasonable Practices
to the 12th. of April from which time they have been
allowed 13s/4d. each Per Week for their support by an
Order from Mr.. Wickham Under Secretary of State

The Committee Ordered That a regular Day book
be kept by the respective Workmen in the several Work-
