to raise the same to apply immediately to Parliament for an Act to
empower them to raise their Tolls in such proportion as shall be
thought necessary."

Your Committee further Report, That upon viewing
and examining the Bridge and the Approaches thereto they find
that the Bridge over which Carriages pass is very substantial and in
good repair and in a straight line and a proper direction for the
stream of Water by the Avenues to it produce an Inconvenience
from the curvated form of the Road particularly at the West end of the
Bridge which prevents Passengers seeing a sufficient distance before
them, by which from the Velocity of Carriages passing Accidents may
sometimes happen, but as the Bridge over which Carriages pass
is in compleat repair and the Inconveniences attending the passage
arise not from the Bridge but the Avenues to it; Your Committee
are of Opinion the County ought not to be at any Expence nor as
Your Committee conceive are the Magistrates authorized by any Law
respecting Bridges and County Rates to burthen the County with
any charge in Attempting to remove such inconveniences but that
any Alteration which may be judged neccessary ought to be made by
the Turnpike Trust as the benefit and accommodation will be for
the Public at large travelling the Western Road.

And the Committee beg leave to observe that as it appears
some Alterations must necessarily be made to the Bridge by the
Grand Junction Canal Company for their own Accommodation it
may be necessary to give directions to the County Surveyor to
attend to such Alterations and to take care that they are done in a
Workmanlike and substantial manner as from a neglect of so
doing considerable Expence may hereafter fall upon the County who
may in future be called upon to support the Bridge

All which Your Committee Submit Etc
