think me impertinent in hinting to you that whenever a Plan may be
designed and adopted, considerable saving of Expence may be made if the
Canal Company will undertake the Execution because the Profits that may
be expected by any individual Contractor can be no object to them and because
by having Implements of every kind in readiness such as Pumps Piling
Engines Planks Barrows and Scaffolding they can do the Work at much
less Expence than any Man could who would have these things to provide
and more especially because the Foundations might be done when they could
catch proper opportunity of taking off the Water for the purpose of deepening
the River and executing the Lock below.

The following is an Estimate of sundry Expences attendant on the
Rebuilding and Alteration of the present situation of new Brentford Bridge
in the County of Middlesex
Sept 1794
On Mrs. Freestones Estate
To take down and rebuild (according to Plan) the premises
now in the Occupation of Mr. Powell will (exclusive of the
Old Materials which are allowed to be us'd in the same)
amount to the Sum of Nine Hundred and twenty two Pounds} £922..-..-
To take down, frame and refix the Old Building over the
wharf gateway adjoining Mr Powells Premises and now
in the Occupation of Mr Jas. Lover to raise the same to the
heighth of 7 feet 6 Inches from the top of the foot path to the
underside of bressummmer and using the Old Materials &
making good with New where required will amount to
about Seventy Pounds} £70..-..-
