By adjournment Thursday Sixteenth Octr. 1777

The following Report of the Committee appointed to carry
into immediate and Effectual Execution the Repair of New Prison and
Clerkenwell Bridewell being laid before this Court and the same being

Middlesex

To His Majestys Justices of the peace for the County of Middlesex in
their General Quarter Session of the peace assembled

The Report of the Committee appointed to
carry into immediate and effectual Execution the
repair of New Prison and the House of Correction
at Clerkenwell

The said Committee Report

That having taken into Consideration the
provision of a proper Bell for the purpose of calling the prisoners in
New prison and Clerkenwell Bridewell to prayers and having upon
Examination found that in each of the Goals there are hand Bells now
usually made use of for giving notice to the prisoners of the time of locking up
and other purposes It is the Opinion of the Committee that the
same Bells may be Conveniently used for the present for giving the prisoner
notice of the time of devine Service

The said Committee do also Report that upon
Consideration of the order of Reference concerning the fixing some certain
hour or hours when prayers shall be read in the said Prisons they are of
Opinion that prayers should be read by the Chaplain on such days as
he is directed in his appointment to Officiate at the prisons at the hour
of Twelve and that the Keepers of the prisons should cause a Bell to be
properly and Constantly rung in their respective prisons some little time
before such hour for the purpose of Congregating their respective prisoners
in the Chapel and that they do also take care that none of their prisoners do
absent themselves from the Chapel at such times without some very sufficient
reason

The said Committee do further Report That
having Examined into the grounds of the petition of Mr. James Elmore< no role >
Keeper of New Prison at Clerkenwell for the allowance out of the County
Treasury
