and electing Thomas
Lane Esquire to be
Chairman of the Court }

It is Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of Middx now
Assembled at this present General Session of the Peace holden at Hickshall
in St. John Street in and for the said County by Adjournment on Thursday
the twenty eighth day of February instant Do Continue and elect
Thomas Lane< no role > Esquire to be Chairman of the General Quarter and
General Sessions of the Peace to be holden for the County of Middx
between Lady day One thousand Seven hundred and fifty one and
Mahaelmas then next ensuing.

Esquires to Attend his
Grace the Dube of
Newcastle concerning
the Place of Keeper
of New Prison }

Upon reading the humble Petition of John Bland< no role > this Day exhibited
Unto this Court praying that this Court will Please to Appoint him
Keeper of New Prison at Clerkenwell , the Office or Place of Keeper
thereof being now Vacant, and Letter from his Grace the Duke of
Newcastle being Now produced and read recommending the said John
Bland to the said Office of Keeper, And upon Examination of the said
John Bland< no role > touching his Qualification and Ability to execute the said
Office of Keeper he could not make it Appear to this Court that he was
Able either to Write or read, upon which this Court did Adjudge him
An Unfit and improper person to be Appointed Keeper of the Said
Prison, And Another Person (to wit) One William Pentlow< no role > now Offering
himself and praying this Court Will please to Appoint him keeper
of New prison aforesaid, who (upon his being examined) Appeared
to this Court to be a Person who Writes a good hand And to be also in
other respects a fit and proper Person to be keeper of the said Prison
This Court doth not new proceed to Appoint As Now Keeper thereof,
But out of regard to his Grace the Duke of Newcastle Doth think it Proper
that his Grace should be Acquainted of the said Matter, And doth therefore
desire that the Right Honourable the Earl o Kinnoull John Milner< no role >
George Errington< no role > and Boulton Mainwaring< no role > Esquires Justices of the Peace
of the said County will Please to communicate the Same to his Grace
And Also Acquaint his Grace that the Appointing a Keeper of New Prison
is Adjourned untill the County day of the Next General Quarter
Sessions (to wit) Thursday the eighteenth day of April next.
