By adjournment on Thursday the 17th. Day of January
1750 .

Order made upon the Report.
of the Committee concerning.
the repairing the Middx part
of Chertsea Bridge.}

A Report being made unto this Court by James Clitherow< no role >
George Errington< no role > William Withers< no role > & Boulton Mainwaring< no role >
Esquires being a Quorum of his Majestys Justices of the Peace
of this County ( to whom it was referred by Order of Sessions
of the eighth day of December last to view and See what
Repairs and Amendments were wanting & necessary to
be done to the Middx part of Chertsea Bridge to the
Same may be well and Sufficiently repaired) It appeareth
to the Court by the Said Report that the Said Committee
did on the twenty Ninth Day of December last take a
view of the aforesaid part of the Said Bridge and do report
that Several Piles are broke and Splinted and be at out
of their Trussell Heads, And that the Great Arch of the
Said Bridge which is on the Middx Side is only Supported
by one Pile, and that part of the Said Bridge is in very
great danger of falling down and that if any Barge or
Craft Should by wilfulness accident or otherwise run against
the Said Pile which now only support the Said great Arch
and Should beat it down or out of its Trussell Head that
great part of the Said Bridge for want of that little Support
must inevitably fall which would not only put a total
Stop & obstruction to all his Majestys liege Subjects from
passing with their Coaches Carts Carriages and on foot over
the Said Bridge and Barges and Crafts under the Said
Bridge , but also put the County to large Expence in
rebuilding the Same, And that the Committee not taking
any workmen with them but depended upon Seeing one
Mr. Brown a Carpenter at Chertsea , could not then have
Estimate or take any Account of what Repairs were wanting
and necessary to be done, And that therefore the Committee
adjourned over and met again on the fourth day of this instant
January and directed Mr. Brown to take a view of the Said
Bridge and make an Estimate of what Repairs were wanting
And necessary to be done with the Costs to repair the Same
And that the Committee did meet according to appointment
