Bridge}

Whereas Sr. Joseph Ayloffe< no role > Houlding Bart< no role > . James Clitherow< no role > &
John Poulson< no role > Esquires being a Quorum of the Committee of his
Majestys Justices of the peace for the County of Middx concerning
the New Building of Brentford Bridge in the said County have
by their Report in Writing Certifyed unto this Court that they
met together at Hicks Hall on Tuesday the twenty first day
of December last to consider of the matters referred to them
by an Order of Sessions of the Ninth Day of September last
touching what Sum of Money is fit and proper to be allowed
to Mr. Charles Labelye in the said Order named the Engineer
and Surveyor (who designed and conducted the New Building
of Brentford Bridge in the said County) for his time trouble
& Expences in and about the same And that upon hearing
the said. Mr. Labelye (who was present before the sd. Committee
alledging that he attended the Sessions and the Committee
concerning the New Building the said Bridge ever since
May 1740. and bestowed much time and was at great
Trouble in designing and Conducting the New Building of
the same Bridge till it was finished in June 1742. and
attended the Works as often as necessary and that his travelling
& other Charges upon the Occassion aforesaid have cost him
upwards of Thirty pounds And that the said Committee
being satisfyed of the Truth of the premisses and also that
Mr. Labeleys trouble was very extraordinary in regard he
attended the Works at Brentford Bridge twice a week at
least & that he had also made & prepared seval plans and
drafts for the New Bridge and the several parts thereof & that
he hath not reced for the said Services any Satisfaction or
allowance whatsoever, were of Opinion that the said Mr.
Labelye should be allowed for his Charges & expences aforesd.
the Sum of £30. And that it is fit & proper that the sd. Mr. Labelye
Shod. also be allowed as a Compensation & gratuity for his time
and trouble in designing and Conducting the New Building the sd.
Bridge and for his said attendances over & above his sd. Charges.
the further Sum of £120. And that the sd. Committee are of Opinion
that the sd. allowance is reasonable This Court upon reading the
said report & on Consideration of the premisses doth differ with
the sd. Committee as to the quantnice of the Moneys recomended
by the sd. Report to be allowed to the sd. Mr. Labelye And is of
Opinion that the Sum of Twenty Guineas only be allowed to the
sd. Mr. Labelye on account of his sd. Expences & that the Sum of
£100. only be allowed to the said Mr. Labelye as a Compensation
& gratuity for his time and trouble in designing & Conducting the
New Building the said Bridge & for his attendances & Services aforesd.
which Sums of twenty Guineas & £100. amount together to the Sum
of £121. And this Court doth thereupon Order that Mr. John Higgs< no role > Trear
of this County do as Money Comes to his Hands pay unto the said
Mr. Labelye the said Sum of £121. And that the sd. Treasurer be
allowed the same upon his account
