Order touching the nomi
-nating an Attorney for the
Liberty of the Tower to
meet Mr Higgs Attorney
for the Inhabitants of the
County in order to try if the
Inhabitants of the said Liber
-ty are lyable to pay the
County Rate money.

Information being given unto this Court by some of this Maties
Justices of the Peace for this County who are also in the Commission
of the Peace for the Liberty of the Tower in the said County that the
Inhabitants of the said Liberty insist that they are not by Law
lyable to pay the Sums of money assessed upon the respective
Places in the said Liberty by an Order and a Rate made at the
General Quarter Session of the Peace holden for the said County in
the month of April in the fourteenth year of his present Majestys
reign by Vertue of the Late Act of Parliament for the more easy
assessing collecting and levying of County Rates, And that the
said Inhabitants refuse to pay the said Assessment insisting
that they are by Charter exempted and not lyable to pay the
same, This Court is of an Opinion that is requisite that it
should be legally determined whether the Inhabitants of the
respective Places in the said Liberty are lyable and are by
Law obliged to pay the moneys assessed thereupon in the
Rate aforesaid or not, And doth thereupon recomend it to the
Justices of the Peace for the said Liberty of the Tower to nominate
or cause to be nominated some Attorney to be concerned for the
said Liberty to meet Mr. John Higgs< no role > of Southampton
Buildings near Holborn (whom this Court doth nominate
& appoint to the Attorney on behalf of the Inhabitants of this
County) to put the said matter in the easyest & the Speedyest
way of trial in order to have the same legally determined
And this Court doth appoint the Committee of his Maties
Justices of the Peace of this County appointed to state & adjust
the publick accounts of the said County or any three of them
to give Directions from time to time in the said matter
relating to the Liberty of the Tower and to whom the said
Mr Higgs may have recourse and take their Instructions in
in the Premises which Comittee of Accounts are desired to
meet as there shall be Occasion, And to make their Report
touching the Premises unto the Court of Sessions of the Peace
for this County
