Order for ye Coronr.
or Coronrs. of Middx to take
Inquisitions concerning ye
Death of Prisonrs. dying in
New Prison & ye House of
Correction at Clerkenwell
and for the Keeprs. there of to
give Notice to the Coronrs of
the Death of Prisoners.

Information having been given and it also appearing to
this Court that severall Prisoners have dy'd in his Majesty< no role > 's
Goal of New Prison & in the House of Correction at Clerken
-well in the County of Middx & been bury'd wthout any
Inquisition or Inquisitions taken by the Coroner or Coro-
-ners ofthe said County concerning the Death of such Prisoners and
without any Warrant from ye Coroner to bury the Dead
Bodies of the same Prisoners This Court is of Opinion of
such Proceeding is unjustifyable and yt the Coronr or Coro-
-ners (upon Notice to him or them given) ought to attend at
each of the sd. Prisons wherein any Prisoner shall dye
& take an Inquisition concerning the Death of such Prisonr
& grant a Warrant for Burial without Fee or Reward
And this Court doth Order that ye Keepr of each of the sd.
Prisons do imediately after the Death of any Prisoner or
Prisonrs therein give Notice thereof from time to time
to ye Coronrs or Coronr of the sd. County in ordr to have an
Inquisition taken whom this Court doth require forth-
-with after such Notice to go to such of the Sd. Prisons
wherein such Prisonr or Prisonrs shall be dead & take an In-
-quisition by ye Oath of Jurors to be in such behalf impan-
-nelled & sworn to inquire concerning the Death of such
Prisonr or Prisonrs & to grant a Warrant for buryall wch.
Inquisition This Court doth declare such Coronr or Coro-
-ners are by Law obliged to take & also to grant a Warrant
for Buryall without taking any Fee or Reward And this
Court doth order that the Keepr of each of the sd. Prisons do
from time to time inform ye Court of Sessions of the Peace for
this County if the Coronr or Coronrs of the sd. County neglect
to do his or their Duty in ye Premises or insist on any gra
-tuity in Relation thereunto And it is further ordered by this Court that ye
Keeprs of ye sd Prisons & ye sd Coronrs have forthwth. Notice of this Order
