And Whereas the Said Joshua Walker< no role > preferred his humble
petition unto the Court of the Said next General Quarter
Sessions of the peace holden for this County on the Said fifth
day of April now last Setting forth that the did pay the Sum
of thirty pounds for the first yeare & halfe after he was
admitted Keeper to the then Treasurer of this County for
maimed Soldiers and Mariners for money he had laid out
& expended towards repairing the Said prison, the fees &
profits of the Said prison being then very considerable to
what it has been Since which the petr. humbly Submitted
would appeare by two Accounts, the one for the first yeare
since the petrs. admittance, and the other for the last yeare
ready to be produced to the Court and that the petr. is at
great charges in providing necessarys for the Said prison,
removing Prisoners, attending on Evidences Etc. and is
obliged to continue his usual Number of Servants for the
Security of it against the arts & mischeivous practices
of Prisoners, and that the petr. hath not had any great
complaint made against him Since his being admitted
Keeper , and as much care hath been taken of the prison
& prisoners he humbly conceived as could be possible,
there haveing not above five prisoners dyed in eight
years either in the Said prison or Soon after their
discharge from thence, Nor hath any escape been made
for upwards of two yeares, neither have their any
appressions been laid to his or his Servants charge,
and the petr. therefore humbly prayed and hoped the
premisses considered that the Court would be pleased to
favour him with Such releif as to the Court Should
Seem meet, and whereas the consideration of the Said
matters was adjourned by the Court on the Said fifth
day of April last to the County day of the then next
General Sessions of the peace for this County (to witt)
Thursday the tenth day of May now last, and the two
accounts above mentioned being then produced before
the Court on behalfe of the Said Joshua Walker< no role > The
Court upon inspecting into the Same being of opinion
that the annual accounts of the intermediate yeares
Should alsoe be laid before the Court did on the Said
tenth day of May last adjourn the consideration of
