Report of the Comittee
of Justices of Peace of
Middx concerning
Street Rubberys Etc.


Des Sess: 1728.

The Committe appointed by order of this Court of the
14th day of October last upon occasion of his Majestys
commands signify or by Letter from the Rt. Honble the
Lord Viscount Townshend one of his Majestys principal
Senetarys of State To the Justices of the peace of this
County to be vigilant in suppressing and preventing
such disorders as are the Cause of the Great Encrease of
Street Hobberys and other Felonys, To which
Committe it was referred To give such Orders and
directions as they should think proper for the better
Execution of his Majestys Commands, and to consider
of and lay before this court what other measures might
be necessary or proper to be persued, more effectually
to answer the Ends proposed, as also to propose and
lay before the court such Representations of any
other matters or of any difficulties or obstructions in
this service which should appear or or Occurr to them
To the Intent that proper directions may be given
or application made thereupon, and that such
difficulties and obstructions might to thereby
Removed, Have proceeded according to the said order
of Reference to answer the Ends thereof in the Rest
manner they were able; And accordingly have
assembled themselves at Hicks Hall every Saturday
from the 26th. of October to the 30th. of November
last inclusive, and have from time to time Received
several Reports or Accounts in Writing of Proceedings
by the Justices of this County in their respective
petty Sessions upon the several heads recomended
by his Majestys Gracious Commands to their care,
all which they have caused to be hereunto annexed
and unto which, to avoid prolixity they referr.
And your Committee toot into their most Serious
Consideration the difficulties and obstructions in
the suppressing and preventing of Street Robbery
and other Felonys and Misdemeanours Mentioned
in the Ld. Townshend letter which when attended
to do in good part point out the Measures necessary
