Order for treating and
contracting with Workmen
touching the repair of
such part of Chertsea
Bridge as is in Middx Etc}

Upon reading the Report of William Cotesworth Senr Thomas
West and Philip Willshire< no role > Esqrs three of his Maties Justices of
the peace of this County being of the Comittee appointed by
an Order of Court made in April Sessions 1726 to take to their
Assistance some Engineer or such able Workmen as they should
think fit and to take a view of such part of a publique Bridge
called Chertsea bridge as is in this County, and to see if any and
what repaires were wanting and necessary to be done thereto,
and to make an estimate of what it would cost to repair the same,
It appeareth to this Court that the said three Justices of the
peace together with William Ogbourne< no role > Esqr and severall able
workmen well recomended and capable of performing the said
Worke have taken a view of the said Bridge, and doe find the
same to be much damaged by the great floods last Winter and
so very much decayed by the rottenness of the piles which did
support the said Bridge that a great part thereof is broken
downe and wholly impassable for carriages Etc and an
immediate repair or rebuilding is absolutely necessary which
said repaires or rebuilding will want the materialls and
Workmanship (the particulars whereof are hereunto annexed)
And in the Opinion of the said Justices the Workmen who are to
perform the same will deserve the Sume of six hundred and fifty
pounds or thereabouts, And the said Workmen desire that what
Sume or Sumes they shall contract for (they giveing sufficient
security) be advanced to them as followeth (vizt.) one third part
of the whole Sume contracted for to be advanced to them at the
execution of the Articles for carrying on the said Worke, one third
part more thereof when the said Bridge shall be wholly plankt,
and the other third part residue and remainder thereof when the
said worke shall be fully compleated and finished to the satisfaction
of such Gentleman as the Court shall appoint to survey the
same, As by the said Report relation being thereunto had way
at large appeare, This Court upon consideration had of the
premisses Is of opinion that such part of the said Bridge as
is in this County be forthwith repaired, And for that end and
