carried by Mr. Booths Clerk to Mr. Manley where the said
Cole did affront Mr. Manley when in custody

That soon after Mr. Manley and his Wife were committed
their Sureties came and proposed themselves to Mr.
Booth which he approved of Exacted four Recognizances
for the said offences and took Nine Shillings for the
Fees thereof Altho all the Facts where with Mr. Manley
and his Wife were charged might (and Wee are humbly
of Opinion ought) to have been comprised (at most)
in two Recognizances For which no more than Four
Shillings and Eight pence should have been taken

That Mr. Booth took as a Fee for the discharge of Mr.
Manley and his Wife from their Imprisonment four
Shillings For which no more than one Shilling ought
to have been taken

All which matters and things Wee have taken into
Serious consideration & do humbly Submit to your
Lordship whether the said William Booth< no role > by so doing
hath not been Guilty of a very great abuse of the
Power granted by the Commission of the Peace and
whether he hath not very much oppressed the said
Richard Manley< no role > and his Wife thereby, in refuseing
them a reasonable time to Send for Bail and Committing
them to Prison for want of it, in Exacting more
Recognizances than he ought to have done and the
Fees consequent thereupon And whether he hath not
been Guilty of Extortion in the Fees by him
taken for their discharge.
