Samuel Davis< no role > (a Weaves) lodger at Mr. Meyricks in
Guy Eagle street Spitalfields maketh oath that last night as Dept
was passing the Helmet Alehouse in Holborn he saw Robert Jones< no role >
standing with his Cloaths off on the steps of said Alehouse and the
deced who was a fellow Servant of Depts, stopped and standing in the
House, and Dept immedy. went up to the deced and laid hold of him, and
desired him not to fight but he sayed he would fight, and they both
went into the street, and there Jones shook the deced by the Land and
sayed we are old acquaintance I had rather put on my Cloaths and
not fight, but the deced sayed he would fight and one which was the
best Man; and they both accordingly fought as Dept believes for the
space of a quarter an hour, during which many flows passed and he
deced had many falls, at length the deced after his last fall appeared
to be very much hurt, and Dept assisted to get him into the Alehouse
where he seemed to be extremely ill and speechless, and dept assisted
to put him into a Coach and a Man got in with him, and Dept drove
him to his Lodging at Moorgate where he appeared to be almost or
quite dead and Dept not being able to get him any [..] assistance
there he drove him to his Masters Yard in Moor lane, and then when he
went to take the deced out of the Coach he was dead. Dept says the deced
when he fought was intoxicated with Liquor, and that he did not
above my foul lay on either side in the course of the fight.
