18th. day of March 1785
before me one of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace for the County of Middlesex
Who on his Oath Saith That on Monday Evening the fourteenth
day of March instant between Seven and Eight O'Clock at he
was going along Bishopsgate street
London [..]
with a Parcel under his Arm he was there Accosted by one George
Reynolds the Prisoner
now under Examination who asked this
Informant how much it was after seven O'Clock, and asked likewise
for a street, and entered into Conversation with this Informant
this Informant then asked the said George Reynolds< no role >
which was
Devonshire street
, to which Reynolds made Answer he was
going two or three Doors beyond Devonshire street
, and he
would shaw him, Reynolds then asked this Informant to lett
him carry this Informants Bundle, and offered him a shilling
to buy a two penny Cheescake but Informant not consenting
thereto, the Prisoner Reynolds then matched the Bundle from
under his Arm and ran down Devonshire street
towards Pettycoat
Lane, and this Informant after him calling out stop thief, and
immediately two men Came up to this Informant one of whom
kicked up his heels and fell over him and Damn'd him
and asked him what he lay there for, and in the mean
time the said George Reynolds< no role >
the Prisoner
was quite out
of Sight with the Bundle containing agreed many pair of Cotton
Stockings the property of Robert Cox< no role >
his Master
