Constable in the Ward of Bishopsgate
Brief for the Prosecution
London Indictmt. States,
That the City of London
is an ancient City and that according to the
Custom of the said City from time memorial used and approved of in
in the same the Deft late of London Broker on the 21st. day of December in
the 25th. Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the 3d. King of Great
Britain Etc. and long before being an Inhabitant and Resiant within the
Parish of St. Martin
Outwick in the Ward of Bishopsgate
in London
aforesaid and a fit & proper person to execute the office of Constable within the
said Ward He the said Deft at a Court of Wardmote
holden for the said Ward
of Bishopsgate
at Leathersellers hall situate in the said Parish of Saint Helen
in the Ward aforesaid according to the Custom of the said City and Court afsd.
on the said 21st. Day of December in the Year aforesaid before

then & now one of the Aldermen
of the said City of London
and then &
yet Alderman of the said Ward was lawfully and in due Manner accordg.
to the Custom of the said City and Court of Wardmote
aforesaid then & there
elected & chosen to be one of the Constables in & for the same Ward
for one whole Year then next ensuing by the Men inhabiting & resiant
paying Scott & bearing Lott within the said Ward whereof the said Deft
afterwards to wit on the same 21st. Day of December in the said Year and on
divers other Days and Times after at London
aforesaid that is to say at
the said Parish of Saint

in the Ward aforesaid
had Notice Nevertheless the said Deft not regarding his Duly in this
Behalf but endeavouring & intending as much as in him lay totally to hinder
and retard the due Execution of Justice on the said 21st. day of December in
the Year last aforesaid and continually from thence unto the Day of the taking of
this Inquisition at the Parish and in the Ward last aforesaid voluntarily
obstinately & contemptuously wholly refused denied and neglected and yet doth
refuse and neglect to take upon him and to execute the said office of Constable
contrary to his Duty In manifest contempt and Delay of Justice To the Evil
Example of all other in the like Case offending and against the Peace Etc.
