The Information of James Chater< no role > , Richard Chater< no role > , John
Olding Samuel Renshaw< no role > and John Beamish< no role >
taken before me this 23rd. day of September 1782 .

Who being on Oath say and First the said James Chater< no role > says that
he is a Watchmaker and lives at No.14 Cornhill LondonThat
on Thursday Last a Person now present who calls himself
Hyam Levy< no role > came into his Shop and desired to took at some Stone
Buckles which this Informant Shewed himThat he then desired
to look at some Watches and after looking at several made
choice of a Silver Watch now produced by the said Samuel
Renshaw, of Seven Guineas Value; and a pair of Stone Knee< no role >
buckles now produced by the said John Beannish< no role > of two
Guineas Value. That in Payment for the said Watch and
Buckles the said Hyam Levy< no role > gave This Informant a Bill
to Exchange now produced purporting to be the Bill of
Exchange of Chas. Young, on Messrs. Welch Rogers< no role > & Co. Bankers
at London, for the Payment of Ten Pounds ten Shillings,
toMr. Henry Lewes or Order, Three Months after date,
dated Birmingham July 19 1782, and purporting to he
Accepted by the said Messrs. Welch and Rogers. That said
Hyam Levy< no role > desired this Informant to give him the Difference
which this Informant did, amounting to One Guinea. That
this Informant then asked said Hyam Levy< no role > what his Name
was, when said Levy said he would Write his Name on
the Back of said Bill of Exchange, and accordingly wrote
the Name " Henry Lewis< no role > " which now appears thereon, and
then went away. That after said Levy was gone he suspected
the Bill not to be a good one and accordingly sent his Son
with it to Messrs. Welch & Rogers in Cornhill. And the
