John Donaldson< no role > the above named Defendant
Maketh Oath That being lately Anested for Debt and in Custody
of the Keeper of the Poultry Compter he was therein detained on
a Charge as for having forged the Name of the above Edward
Russell on a Bill of Exchange And saith that he was preparing
for his defence on his Removal to Newgate on Wednesday last
and to take his Tryal this Sessions for the said suppose do
Offence but on an Inquiry which this Deponent Caused to be
made for Mr. Thomas Smith< no role > of Suffolck lane Carmon Street
London Surgeon to give Evidence for this Deponent on his Tryals
he was informed and which Information he believes to be
true that the said Thomas Smith< no role > is gone a Journey into
Yorkshire and will not return these three Weeks but that he
will return at that time And saith That the said Thomas Smith< no role >
is a principal and Material Witness for this Deponent as he
verily believes and without whose Testimony he cannot safely
take his Tryal for the said Supposed Offence.
