Surry , to wit,

The Information of Mary Richardson< no role > Taken upon
Oath this 29th. day of September 1764 . Before Us, two
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said County

This Informant upon her Oath Saith, That some time in the Month
of June last past, One Mr. Walter Hargrave< no role > an Attorney (as he
Acquainted this Deponent) came to her into the Marshalsea Prison
at Southwark (where she was then a Prisoner for Debt) And said
he was Sorry to see her there, And proposed to get Bail for her, And told
[..] further, that if she would deposite about Twenty Pounds, [..]
in his hands, he would get her Bail the next day if it was for a
Thousand Pounds and desired of her in the mean time not to make
herself uneasy, Whereupon this Deponent did then give to the said
Walter Hargrave< no role > Twenty Pounds in Cash for that purpose, And
she Saith that the said Walter Hargrave< no role > Came to her the next day
and told her the Twenty Pounds would not do, for that he heard
she was fixed for above a Hundred Pounds by a Detainer or would be that day Upon which
she asked him where the Twenty Pounds she gave him, was, he said
he gave it Mr. Wilkinson, And this Informant upon her Oath further
Saith that a few days afterwards the said Walter Hargrave< no role > came to her again
into the said Prison, and after passing some time in discoursing
about her Affais and seemingly pitying her distressed Condition
He said to her "I hear you have got about One hundred Pounds
about you", she said she had not so much, Then he said if she would
give him Fifty Pounds more he would get her Bail if it was for
a Thousand, and if he did not, he would give the said Fifty Pounds
to Mr. Wilkinson, meaning Mr. Ralph Wilkinson< no role > at the Vine
Tavern at Southwark, upon which she gave him Fifty Pounds in Cash
And this Deponent further upon her Oath doth positively Declare
that the said Walter Hargrave< no role > never did procure her any Bail as
aforesaid or do Any Act towards the same to her knowledge, Nor
did he ever return her One farthing of the said Seventy Pounds so
fraudulently Obtained from her and she Saith she hath since applied to
the said Mr. Wilkinson for the said Sums of Money, and he gave her
for Answer, he never received any such Money from he sd. Hargrave
