last May Sessions}


Indictment sets forth That Deft. on the first day of January in the Twenty fifth Year of the Reign of
his present Majesty & continually afterwards untill the taking of this Inquisition with force & Arms at London that is
to say at the Parish of St. Mary Woolnoth in the Ward of Langbourne in London afsd. for his own Luere & gain did
keep & maintain & yet doth keep & maintain a Certain Comon Gaming House for the playing at Billiards and
other unlawfull Games And that the sd. Deft. on the same day & year abovesaid & divers other days & times since
at the Parish & Ward afsd. in London afsd. divers loose idle & ill disposed persons to the Jurors afsd. at yet unknown
To play at the said Game of Billiards & other unlawfull Games in his said House unlawfully & wilfully did permit & suffer
And Yet doth permit & suffer To the great damage & Comon Nusance of all the liege Subjects of our said Lord the
King In evil Example Etca. And against the peace Etca.

Plea not Guilty

Case

The Deft. keep this House in Popes head Alley in Cornhill in the Ward of Laugham which becomes
the more dangerous from its Situtation in the very Centre of business & property its allways open for the
playing at Billiards & many people of different degrees frequent it at all house it was thought by the
Inquest of the Ward to be a proper object of their notice & they have presented it having been Eye Witnesses
themselves on their going up stairs of several Psons engaged in Actual play
