Indictment Setts forth that at ye Sessions of Oyer & Terminer holden for & County of Middlesex at Hicks Hall 11th. Janry 15
Geo.2d. before Thomas Lane< no role > Esqr Etc Justices assigned to inquire of All Treasons Etc and ye Same to hear & determine Etc
by the Oath of Sanders Welch< no role > Gentleman Etc then Sworn & charged to inquire for ye King It was presented
Doft & Edward Bygrave< no role > Labourer not having the fear Etc but being moved & seduced Etc and unjustly conspiring &
intending to injure and oppress One William Frankland< no role > Brewer & to cause him to be imprisoned for Felony 9th. Novr
1739 at Kensington in sd. County with force and Arms Etc falsely Etc did conspire to change Etc agt. all Truth & Justice to procure the said
William Frankland< no role > then a Prisoner in Newgate to be charged upon Oath before one of ye Justices of ye sd King assigned to keep the
Peace Etc in ye sd County Etc with a Felony committed in ye County of Oxford & to cause him to be detained in ye sd Goal for ye same And
that for these Purposes Bygrave should Personate one John Spurce< no role > of ye Parish of Aynoe on ye Hill in ye County of
Northampton Salesman And ye Sd Deft & Bygrave to compleat sd Conspiracy sd 9th Nov. Etc at Kensington Etc off did go before Wm
Morrics
< no role > Esqr then one of ye sd. Justices assigned to keep ye Peace Etc in sd. County of Middx Etc And ye sd. Bygrave then & there in ye
Presence & will ye Privity of Deft & in Pursuance of Sd. Conspiracy (personating Sd. John Spurce< no role > ) before sd. Wm. Morice< no role > (then
being One of ye Justices Etc & having Sufficient Authority to administer an Oath in yt. behalf) did then in ye sd. Parish of
Kensington Dolunt arily falsely & maliciously upon his Oath depose in Writing yt. a Person then in Custody in his Majesty's
Goal of Newgate in ye County of Middx who went by ye Name of Wm Franklyn< no role > & by ye Nick Name of Rusty Dick< no role > (meaning
Etc) did on or about ye 20th. day of October Which was in ye Year of Our Lord 1736 attack him (meaning Etc) on ye highway as her
(meaning Etc) was travelling between Islip & Weatley in Oxford Shire yt he (meaning Etc) Robbed him (meaning Etc)of One
Guinea 15 Shillings in Silver a Silver Watch & Hatt And yt ye sd. Robbery was committed in ye day time between ye hours of 4 & 5
o'Clock in ye Afternoon on or about ye sd. 20th. October in ye year 1736.And yt he (meaning Etc) was very positive yt. ye Person who
robbed him (meaning Etc) was ye sd. William Franklyn< no role > (meaning Etc) as by sd Examination may appear Whereas In fact Wm. Frankland< no role >
or Wm Franklyn< no role > did not robb Etc Any Person whatsoever on ye highway in sd. County of Oxford Which sd. Conspiracy Etc were
to ye Great Peril of ye life of Sd. William Frankland< no role > to ye Manifest Perversion Etc To ye Evil Example Etc & agt. ye Peace Etc

That at sd. Session Sd. Deft. pleaded not Guilty

That at another Session held at Hicks Hall on Monday 22d.of Same February before Edward Barker< no role > Esqr & others Justices
Etc The Issno was tried and ye Jury brot. in their Verdict that Deft was Guilty of ye Offence & Misdemeanour charged agt
her in sd. Indictment And yt Bygrave died after 9th. Nov. 1739 & before sd. Indictment was preferred & Referrs to ye Record

That Deft 15th. February 15 Geo 2d. at London in the Parish of Christ Church in ye Ward of Faringdon within
devising to pervert ye due Course of Law & to induce ye Jury upon ye Tryal of sd. Issue to beleive yt Deft on sd. 9th day of Nov
in sd Year 1739 in said Indictment menconed was not present at Kensington afd When Deft & Bygrave are therein Supposed
to have gone before William Morica< no role > ye Justices afd and thereby to procure herself contrary to Right & Justice to be acquitted of sd.
Offence did then and there with force & Arms falsely & wickedly endeavour to Perswade One Mary< no role > ye Wife of Thos. Tannatt< no role >
to appear at ye Fryal of sd. Issue & on sd. Fryal falsely to depose Swear & given Evidence to sd. Jury That on 9th. Nov
1739 sd. Tannatt & Deft took Coach after Breakfast and went together to See ye Tower & afterwards went to
Billinsgate and there had Beef Stakes & oysters And yt. they went from thence to Mr. Merchants (meaning Catherine Merchant< no role >
Which sd. Catherine then lived in Five foot Lane in Thomas Street London) And yt they look sd. Mrs. Merchant with them & Went from thence to Mrs.
Smiths in ye Haymarkett & there Spent ye afternoon & yt from thence they returned to Deft's house & had her forles for Supper
And yt sd. Tannatt lay there ye Night of ye Same day & yt. she was not out of Defts Company All yt day

That Deft in order to induce sd. Mary Tannatt< no role > so falsely to Swcar & give in Evidence as afd on sd. 15th. Feb at
London Etc promised to give sd Mary £300 as a Reward for Sweasing as afd.

The Indictment awarrs sd. Mary Tannatt< no role > was not with Deft or in her Company All or any Part of sd. 9th. Nov. or ye
Night of sd. day or any port of sd. Night

Also Avorrs ye at sd. time when Deft so endeavoured to personate sd. Mary to Swear as afd Deft well knew yt. She could not
according to Truth So Swear Etc To ye Great hinderance of Justice To ye Evil Example Etc agt. ye Peace Etc

The Present Indictmt.alsofurther Setts forth yt. Deft devising as afd after ye sd. Issue Joined and before sd. Tryal on sd. 15th.
Feb at London etc Sent to sd. Mary Tannatt< no role > a Certain Paper Norting in order to induce Sd. Mary to Appear as a Witness
on Defts behalf upon her said Trial & then to give in Evidence divers matters in sd. Paper Writing contained & to Instrant
said Mary so To Swear Etc, Which sd. Paper Writing is as followeth Vizt. I came to Mrs. Nicholls (meaning Defts) house
one (meaning on) It (meaning ye fifth) day of November 1739 and contined & (meaning continued) till ye Monday felling
(Meaning following ) with her it happned to be the are Washing Week Mrs. N (meaning Deft) was never out of my Company
(meaning Company) one hover (meaning hour) from ye time of my comeing till my going away but Whom she went to Bed Swars
With her ye first on ye Morning (meaning Morning) & last at Night Excepting her husband I will take my oath that Mrs
