The humble Peticon of the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the poor of the Parish of St. Buttolph
Aldersgate London .

Sheweth.

That One Elizabeth Hopkins< no role > being about 76 Yeares of
age and haveing been an Inhabitant in yor. Petrs Parish
for severall yeares last past is reduced to great Necessity
and poverty and now become burthensome to yor Petrs. said
Parish and notwithstanding one Thomas Paine< no role > who
married the said Hopkins Daughter is of goods substance
and Ability and ought by Law to provided for his said
mother and not burthen yor Petrs said parish with
the Charge thereof get the refuses soe to doe altho he
hath been thereof required.

Wherefore yor Petr. humbly pray
yor. Lordship and Worpps to heare them in the
Prmisses and also order the said Thomas Paine< no role >
to appeare before you and shew cause why he
should not provided for his said Mother as the
Law in that Case directs and also to hear ad
abide the determinacon of yor Lordship and
Worpps therein.
