Henry Pinder< no role > Master of the vessell called the
Dairy Maid of Whitby in the County of Yorke maketh Oath
That on or about the Sixth-day of January One Thousand Seaven
hundred and Six hee was on board of the Shall opp or vessell called
the Elizabeth of Whitby. Nicholas Newton< no role > being then Master when
Shee was taking in a Loading of Salt at Sheilds And that on Sunday
the Nineteenth day of January last, Hee this Depont. did see
the Said Nicholas Newton Saile out of Tinmouth Haven in the
said Shall opp or Vessell in Company with this Depont. & others.
And this Depont. arrived in Yarmouth Reads on Thursday following
being the three & twentyeth of January last in Company with the
said Nicholas Newton< no role > and others the wind being contrary untill
Tuesday the Fourth of February instant And then this Dept. And
the said Nicholas Newton< no role > and others Sailed in Company together
in their Severall vessells but got noe further towards the Port
of London than unto Seale Bay in the County of Suffolk , And
this Depont. did see the said Nicholas Newton Master of the said
Vessell called the Elizabeth there. And the wind comeing contrary
This Depont. & others were forced back again into Yarmouth en
Roades with a very violent Storme, with the wind att South and
by East. And in this Deponts. way back in the morning about
Seaven of the Clock being the Fifth of this Instant February
This Depont. Sailing of by Lay Stoffe did see a Wreck lying on
the Sands Staring which hee well knew to be the Shallopp or
Vessell called the Elizabeth of Whitby. of which Nicholas Newton
was Master And alsoe this Deponts. Neighbour And that the Said
Vessell or Shallopp Master & Mariners & Loading of Salt Shipped
therein did all Perish in the Sea. And this Depont. further Saith that
afferwards he went a Shore at Lay Stoff And did there see the said Wreck
on the Sands and knew the said vessell to be the Elizabeth of Whitby where
Nicholas Newton was Master which was Loaden with Salt & then gave
Order at Lay Stoffe that if the Body of the said Nicholas Newton or any of
his Company Should be driven on the Shore That They Should be taken upp
and Buried And hee this Depont. would pay the Charges for soe doing
And more Saith not Etc
