John Maynard< no role > Master of the vessell called the Margtt.
& Anne of Stockton in the Bishoppricke of Durham maketh Oath
that on Sunday the Nineteenth day of January last 1706 hee did see the
Shall opper vessell called the Elizabeth of Whitby Nicholas Newton< no role >
being Master Lying by this Deponts. vessell within less than a Bow
Shot within Tinmonth Haven in the North. And Hee this Depont.
thereof king the said Nicholas Newton< no role > for whome his vessell was
London, the said Nicholas Newton then told this Depont. that Shee
was Loaden with Salt Shipped for Mr. Jaggard to be Delivered
att Billingsgate Docke in London And on the said day This Depont.
and the said Nicholas Newton both Sailed out together with their
vessells amongst others from Timmonth Haven to Sea And that they
arrived in Yarmouth Roades on the Thursday following being the
Three and Twentyeth day of January last, the wine being contrary
to them untill Tuesday the Fourthday of February Instant, And then
this Depont. & the said Nicholas Newton< no role > with others Sailed together
in their Severall Vessells but got noe further towards London than
unto Seale Bay . And this Depont. did see the said Nicholas Newton
Master in the said Shallop or Vessell there, But the wind comeing
contrary This Depont. and others were forced back again into Yarmonth
Roades with a very greate and violent Gale of Wind, And the next
morning being the Fifth day of February instant. Hee did see a Wreck
lying on the sands with the bottom upwards And this Depont. further
Deposeth that the Fleete which arrived back into Yarmonth Reades This
Depont. told them over, But out of Three & twenty Saile one was
Missing, which Upon Inquiry among If the Rest of the Masters and
Mariners hee found itt was the Elizabeth of Whitby, of which Nicholas
Newton was Master whoe was then lost at Sea, and was the Wreck.
And that the said Nicholas Newton< no role > and all the Mariners in the
Shallopp or Vessell Perished with the said Shallopp or Vessell and
Loading of Salt Shipt therein as aforesaid att Sea And more Saith
not
