The Voluntary Examination of Alice
Humphrys
< no role > taken ontheOath the 29th. day of
December 1788 before me one of his Majesty's
Justices of the Peaces for the County of Middlesex

Who Saith that on Friday the 19th. day of December
instant about ten o'Clock in the Morning James Grace< no role >
came to Examinants Lodgings in Ley Alley Shoreditch and
Joseph Walker< no role > being these Grace said to Walker will you go
and get some thingsWalker made Answer Yes And this
they went out together and in about a quartes of an hour they
returned again and put some bad Shillings and Table in
the Room She saw Grace cant them there were Sixteen
And Grace said to Walker we will do them here this Examinant
said they should not be done thereThey made Answer they
should not be long about them and nobody would come up
in the time they Say'd they would go and yet some Stuff to
do them with and both went out together and took with
them a BottleGrace returned first and sat himself down tourpe
the Grace from them and whild he was wiping Walker came and
the Room with the Bottle now in Possession of James Shakeshaft< no role >
in which was some liquietbut Examinant does not know what
Walker said to Grace here is the Aqua fort is and Walker poured
is out of the Bottle into a Bason and put the Shillings in the
Bason to it Examinant smelt something and Walker Say's they
were done Grace Say'd they did not took of a good ColourWalker
took them out of the Ayna fortis and put them into a Bason of Water
[..] and afterwards took them out and weped them And them Grace took some black Street to put
over them And whilst that was doing the Officers came in and took
