Depositions taken on View of the Body of
John Wilkinson< no role > laying Dead at the Parish
of Saint Botolph Aldgate in the County of
Middlesex the 17th. day of July 1789 before
Edward Walter< no role > one of the Coroners for
the said County

Richard Core of Red Cross Street Nightingale Lane
in the Parish and County aforesaid Labourer being
Sworn saith That on Thursday thefifsixteenth
day of July instant [..] about the hour of Seven in the Eveningas Deponent was Passing
up Nightingale Lane East Smithfield he
saw [..] William Powell< no role > who Deponent
has been Informed is a Soldier and Occasionally
Works as a Coal heaver standing against a Post
at the upper End of the Lane and appeared to be
in Liquor that he was Swearing much and
said Damn my Bloody Eyes I will stick the
first Thief Taker I see or that shall come
near me and drew a small Clasp Knife.
from his Pockett with a Sharp Point which
he opened That the deceased who was an
Attendant at the Office of Mr Smith a Majistrate
of the County of Middlesex was standing
about two or three Yards from the Powell and
upon hearing his Expressions said You had
