below Daniels said to Hawkes Down ye. the Carpet and
things were taken away this conversation was on the outside
the Street door during which [..] Hawkes's Girl came up to
them, and told them to go further from the door and not
talk so loud for that the Young Women upon above Stairs
was frightened out of her Wits on Account of the [..] Curtains
being there Daniels hearing the Clock Strike eight ran away
saying he was going to his Guard Hawkes and Informant
then returned to the Red Lyon where Hawkes enquired
who had taken away the Carpet somebody in the house but
whom deponent knows not,describedsaid that a Grenadier
belonging to the first regiment and who had sat in a Seat
to which he pointed had taken the Carpet and giving a description
of his person Hawkes them said it was Whitfield another of
the Prisoners this was aboutafterhalf after Ten at which
time Thomas Richardson< no role > came into the house and apprehended
Hawkes, and Pheobe Wright Informant went with Richardon [..]
to theand the Prisoners to St. James's Watchhouse with Richardson Chadwell< no role > & Robertson and from thence
to No. 3 in Richmond Street, Richardson and the other went up
Stairs and brought down a Bundle of Curtains now produced and
took it to the Watchhouse, from the Watchhouse they went to
Whitfields Lodgings in Brick Street Mays Buildings near
Hyde Park they saw a Woman who said she was Whitfields
Wife and who told them her husband was at night works
for Mr. Warren they then went to Warrens in Grantham Place at
about Twelve and were directed by a Woman to Knightsbridge
wither they went and afterwards to Brompton where they
apprehended Whitfield, Richardson asked Whitfield where the
Carpet was, who said that at Hawkes's desire he had [..]
taken the Carpet into his care intending to carry it for
Safety to is own Lodgings but not having the Key he had
carried it to the Marques of Granby they then went to the
Marquis of Granby Whitfield knocked at the door and
asked for the Carpet which he had left there on which
the door was open'd and the Carpet delivered to Whitfield
who carried it to the Watchhouse by order of Richardson
