The Information of Isaac Lewis< no role > of Distaf Lane London Officer of
his Majestys Customs and John Basset< no role > of Cable Street Whitechapel head borough
taken this 16th day of July 1788 before me one of his Majestys Justices of the peace for sd County

Who being Oath say and first the said Isaac Lewis< no role > for himself saith last night about the
hour of Ten as he was going along near Tower hill the person present who saith her name
is Elizabeth Shakespear asked him to go to her Lodgings which he did and went to bed with her
Says about the hour of Twelve [..] The Person present who saith
his name is Thomas Johnson< no role > broke open the Room Door and went to the fire place where was
a Candle burning and attempted to blow it out that he called to Johnson what do your mean to
blow the Candle out for do you mean to rob me-Johnson said hold your tongue or it shall
be worse for you and then Blow'd the candle out run to the Bed where he and said Elizabeth
Lay
< no role > and took this Informant Clothes Viz a Light coloured Coat not produced and the
the Cotton Waistcoat produced. The Buck horn handle knife produced theTobacco box produced the
Spectacles and case produced. The Lumen Handkerchief produced all of which are his
property and in his possession at the timeThat as soon as Johnson had taken his
said Clothes as aforesaid he run to the Stairs and the said Elizabeth Shakespear< no role > jumped
out of Bed and run down Stairs after him. That she returned about the hour of
four and recollects Shakespear celling to Johnson to rip him up for an old Rogue and that she took Three
Shillings and sixpence from him

John Basset< no role > on his oath saith this morning about the hour of Seven he heard
that a man had been robbed in the neighbourhood he went and found [..] Isaac Lewis< no role > without
coat or waistcoat and shewed him the room Which Elizabeth Shakespear< no role > lives in and
hearing that Thomas Johnson< no role > had broke the door Open He went and secured them
both- That Johnson had the Waistcoat produced on, The Tabacoos Box back horn
handle knife Spectacles and case and linnen Handkerchief produced in his
PocketsThat Shakespear Naved mercy saying that Johnson had broke the door
open and taken the things and Johnson said that she gave them to him

Three this morning and gave her half a Crown to buy some Victuals which she did that they went
to bed That the man she lives with Thomas Johnson< no role > came home from work Yesterday about three
in the afternoon dont know when he went out came home this morn about three and
that Isaac Lewis< no role > gave her the Waistcoat produced which she gave to Thomas Johnson< no role >
