The Examination of Henry Baker< no role >
charged with Felony taken before me
this 23d day of October 1787 .

Who Says that he is thirty five Years of Age and was born
at Chipping Canden in Gloucestershire that he served three
Year Apprenticeship to a Butcher and has followed that
business at times ever since That he now lives with Mr Yallowley
Cowkeeper in Tottenham Court Road That on Monday the
first of October Instant, he Thatched a Bean Stack at Dagenham
for Mr Allowley, that on the Tuesday and Wednesday he got
Drunk at the Rose and Crown , That on Wednesday Thomas Lane< no role > one James
now presentcame to him at the Rose and Crown and asked him if
he could give him a Jobb, Examinant asked him what he could do
he replied Thrash, Examinant told him he would get him a Jobb
That Examinant and saidLaneJames went to the Barn, that when
they came there saidLaneJames said this Examinant, if you knew
my mind you need not work, Examinant ask'd said [..] James why
he need not work, saidLaneJames Replied I have got two silver Tankards
hid under a Bridge Examinant asked him how they came there
saidLaneJames Replied two Young Men that [..] were in Chelmsford Gaol
had Stolen them from a Gentlemans House in Suffolk or Norfolk
That they went and took them that saidLaneJames then Knocked the
TopshandlesOff, and said I'll take the Tops and you the bottoms and
will sell them, That he this Examinant Informed said [..]
James that he had got the Tankard and did not know what to do with it
when he advised him to apply to a Pawn broker at Hampstead
to say he found them in Halloway fields that by that direction
he went to the shop of said Mr. Gilks now Present
